Volcanic soil is incredibly rich of nutrients such as potassium, boron, iron, and zinc that coffee requires to grow. One that that volcanic soil offers over any other soil type is better drainage which keeps plants from getting waterlogged and stifled. Manuel is an 89 year old coffee producer with six children. One of his sons now champions most of the production these days as his father gets older. San José is fairly isolated with limited internet and cell phone reception which adds a layer of mystery to the lot. Backed with a life time of knowledge and experience, the production of San José is destined to flourish for generations to come. Unlike a lot of farms that we work with, San José is an incredibly small microlot with only one lot to offer. Coffee from Finca San José is fully washed and dried twice; once on a patio and lastly in a parabolic dryer.
