The Boy & The Bear - Coffee Roastery was established by founder Andres Piñeros in 2012 as a pop-up shop in Villavicencio – Colombia with a task of serving Colombian coffees only. The main concept behind our new coffee brand was to work in close relationships with most of our coffee farmers because we believe in transparency and honest connections in a country that produces one of the top-quality coffees in the world.
Andres Piñeros moved to Los Angeles CA in early 2013 with the sole goal of establishing the brand in a city that was ready to take in a concept of world award Colombian coffees by the time the specialty industry, was not as entirely explored and discovered just yet.
The first official storefront in Redondo Beach CA, opened its doors in 2016. Two years later The Boy & The Bear was able to bring the best Colombian coffee experience to Culver City in early 2018. And now Westchester CA, a beautiful and welcoming neighborhood 5min from LAX also has this magical Colombian experience to be shown as it opened in December 2019.
Our goal as a coffee roasting company is to serve the best cup of coffee someone has ever had in their life. It is not an easy task but something we strive for everyday by sourcing coffees direct from Colombia and finally, roasting, brewing and serving it in Los Angeles.
The Boy & The Bear have a high belief in customer service, and we value for our customers to experience something unique and not least friendly. In our team we put a lot of work into designing our store’s in a way our customers will be able to immerse the whole Colombian culture and coffee experience. As The Boy & The Bear is not only about specialty coffee. It is also about our Colombian culture, sounds and the people.
The metallic copper of our logo represents the vibrant color of the crema of every vibrant espresso that our baristas brew daily at our stores. The story behind TB&TB’s logo goes back to an old Swedish bedtime story called “Mors lilla Olle” ; Where Olle, a farmer boy gets lost in the forest while picking up cherries. While wandering alone, Olle runs into this dangerous brown bear. Frighten, the little boy reaches up and offers his basket full of cherries to the bear and from that point on, they become friends and are constantly looking for cherries in the forest.
Our approach to this story as a brand, is to create a common space for people with different interests, cultures, and backgrounds to diverge and have something in common (our specialty Colombian Coffee) to start a conversation to eventually create bonds regardless of our backgrounds.
The sensibility for unique design and aesthetics have always been present in the foundations of The Boy & The Bear as a specialty coffee brand. Every element placed in our stores is carefully thought out with the intention of representing a concept from the Colombian culture. A culture that is rich in fauna, flora, as well as the exotic sounds and flavors created in the deep of the magical South American rain forests.
The Boy & The Bear’s brand identity colors are metallic copper and natural weathered wood. From that point on, we believe in being playful by making variations of TB&TB’s color pallet with contrasts and accents on every new store is what keeps our creative minds entertained: We are extremely proud of presenting each one of the stores that represents an idea and a “feeling” of the magical Colombian surrealism. The Black Store, The Grey Store and The White Store.
