The Green Store was designed as an immersive environment.
Inspired by the dense rainforests of Colombia, the space is built around the idea of enclosure by nature to create a cafe where the atmosphere feels alive.
Green becomes the dominant tone in this store. At The Green Store the interior design holds a different kind of energy. More layered and immersive.
Coffee remains at the center, but the environment expands the experience around it.
"The Green Store is an interpretation of Colombia and its magic."
This project was recognized with a Coffee Design Award at SCA Portland 2023, a reflection of the intention and care behind the space.
At The Boy & The Bear, we created this space with the intention of creating a shift as you enter. From the outside into something more immersive. A space that feels removed, but still connected.
Green surfaces, natural textures, and organic forms create a sense of movement throughout the space.
Gold accents are introduced with restraint. They reference the material heritage of Colombia, particularly the craftsmanship of the Muisca civilization.
At the center of the space, the mural anchors the experience. The imagery draws from the Colombian magical surrealism, adding a powerful depth to our coffee experience.
Natural light stays mostly at the perimeter, while the interior settles into deeper green tones. The green walls hold the space together. They’re flat, matte, and consistent, which gives the room a steady background for everything else. The intentional lighting is focused on the bar, the product shelving, and key areas, so your attention naturally moves there.
The hand painted mural in the center wall becomes the main point for design of the store. It gives the space the ideal identity without taking over the room.
Greenery is used in a controlled way around the edges of the store. It adds softness and depth, but it’s placed with intention, not spread everywhere.
The Green Store is a space that feels calm, easy to read and enjoy a great cup of coffee, and comfortable to stay in.
The color palette at this store is built around a controlled range of muted greens.
The walls carry a desaturated, matte green that holds the entire space together as the base color allowing everything else to read clearly without competing.
Black and darker green tones are used to create the necessary visual dynamic. The bar, shelving, and lighting fixtures create visual balance and give the space weight where it needs it.
Gold elements are introduced in specific moments on our logo and the mural. They sit in key areas and catch light, adding warmth against the cooler greens.
Greenery is used as an extension of the palette to create a lushed immersion. It adds variation in tone and texture, but stays within the same color family so the space remains cohesive.
Also, the natural lighting plays an important role in how the palette is experienced. Warmer light sits against the green surfaces and shifts their tone slightly, keeping the space from feeling flat.
