French Press Brew Guide

The French Press has always been a favorite of ours. While we don’t use it in our cafés, it remains one of the most honest and expressive ways to brew coffee at home.

Unlike the V60, there is no paper filter. The metal mesh allows the natural oils and fine particles of the coffee to pass into the cup, creating a fuller body and a heavier mouthfeel. Its less about clarity, more about weight, sweetness, and presence.

In this guide, we walk you through a simple process to brew it at home.

The Mindset for the Brewing Process

The process is simple, and the mindset shifts from full control of variables and technique to letting time and immersion do the work.

Its less about precision in pouring, more about allowing the coffee to fully express its natural character given by immersion time, grind size, and the gentle initial agitation before plunging.

Give it time, and let immersion take over. The result is a richer, sweeter, and more full-bodied cup.

Brewing Setup:

Ratio: 30g coffee / 500g water

  1. Preheat water to ~93–96°C
  2. Grind coffee and add 30g to the press.

THE EXTRACTION
  1. Pour 500g water
  2. Stir gently to fully submerge grounds
  3. Place lid on
  4. Do not plunge, and wait 10 minutes
  5. Remove lid and skim off the top layer
  6. Place lid back and slowly plunge

Serve and enjoy.
