Where the Cloud Forest Begins

Tucked within Ecuador's Chocó-Andean Biosphere, Intag Valley is one of the most ecologically rich coffee-growing regions in the world. Coffee is cultivated between 1,600 and 2,200 meters above sea level, where cool mountain temperatures, abundant rainfall, and pristine rivers create ideal conditions for slow cherry development. The surrounding cloud forests shelter an extraordinary diversity of wildlife, making the landscape as remarkable as the coffee itself.

Every harvest begins in a place where agriculture and nature have evolved together over generations. The mountains shape the climate, the forests protect the watersheds, and each season leaves its own signature on the cup.

Generations of Care

Intag Blend is produced by a network of small family farms spread throughout the valley. Many growers continue to cultivate their land using traditional methods learned from parents and grandparents, relying on hand tools, handmade organic fertilizers, and an intimate understanding of their farms.

The work is deliberate and deeply personal. Every tree receives careful attention throughout the growing season, and cherries are harvested with patience before beginning the washed process. Across the valley, each family contributes a small part of the final blend, creating a coffee rooted in shared knowledge and collective craftsmanship.

The future of Intag was once uncertain. During the 1990s, mining proposals threatened the forests and rivers that define the region. Local communities searched for another path, one capable of supporting families while preserving the landscape they had always depended upon.

Today, cultivating coffee provides both economic opportunity and a reason to protect the forests surrounding each farm. Healthy ecosystems, clean water, and thriving communities continue to exist together because producers chose a future centered on stewardship and long-term sustainability.
