Between the Highlands
Riakiberu sits in Kamacharia, within Kenya’s Murang’a County, at 1,650 meters above sea level. Here, rich red volcanic soils meet an annual rainfall of approximately 1,200 millimeters and moderate temperatures between 16°C and 26°C. Coffee grows among bananas and maize, with Grevillea and macadamia trees providing natural shade across the landscape. The region moves through two harvests each year, with its principal crop arriving between October and December. It is an environment where altitude, rainfall, soil, and a diverse agricultural landscape come together to create the conditions for coffees of remarkable character.
Riakiberu is a community coffee, assembled from the work of multiple small producers who bring their ripe cherries to the local factory for processing. SL-28 forms the foundation, accompanied by smaller volumes of Ruiru 11 and Batian, varieties selected across the region for their productivity, resilience, and cup quality. Behind each delivery is a network of farmers supported through ongoing training in agricultural practices, sustainable farming, and productivity. The result is not the expression of a single farm, but a collective portrait of coffee growing in Murang’a, shaped by many hands working within the same landscape.
